The purpose of this study is to examine whether the psychoeducational program for coping with social anxiety is effective in reducing the social anxiety levels of 6th and 7th grade students in secondary school. The research was designed as a model with pre-test post-test experimental and control groups. The psycho-education program created by Gümü? (2010) was used as an independent variable in the study. The program was applied to the experimental group as sessions of one and a half hours a week, for 8 weeks. No training was given to the control group. The screening study was conducted on 100 students in the 6th and 7th grades of the Private Zümrüt Secondary School in Band?rma in the 2012-2013 academic year. “Çapa Social Phobia Scale for Children and Adolescents” developed by Demir (1997) was applied to the students. The scale scores of the students were calculated and 10 students from the top 20 students were randomly assigned to the experiment group and 10 students to the control group. Social Phobia Scale, which is a five-point Likert type scale, consists of 25 items. The Cronbach Alpha internal consistency coefficient of the scale was determined as .83. Mann-Whitney U Test and Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test were used to analyze the research data. In the interpretation of the results, .05 significance level was taken as the criterion. As a result, it was found that the psychoeducational program for coping with social anxiety was effective in reducing the social anxiety levels of the students in the experimental group.
