Investigation of the level of adaptation of first year university students to higher education life

In this study, it is aimed to examine the adaptation levels of first year university students to higher education life according to various variables. 849 first year students studying at Trakya University Faculty of Education in the 2012-2013 academic year participated in the study. Research data were collected using Institutional Integration Scales (IAC) developed by Pascarella and Terenzini (1980) and adapted to Turkish by Tuna (2003). The adaptation of students to higher education life with KBÖ was tried to be measured in five dimensions based on the concepts (academic and social adaptation, institutional and purposeful determination) in Tinto's (1975) model. The scale that tries to measure social and academic adaptation concepts in multidimensional ways It helps to predict the continuity of new students to the same university in the following years. In the study, stepwise multiple regression analysis was used to determine the factors associated with university students' adaptation to the university. Research findings; In the first year of the university, students who have low commitment to higher education, who think that they do not have a good education before university, who are not happy to continue their university education, who are not satisfied with their family, who are the only children in the family, who are Anatolian high school graduates, and male students revealed that their level of adjustment is low. In the study, stepwise multiple regression analysis was used to determine the factors associated with university students' adaptation to the university. Research findings; In the first year of the university, students who have low commitment to higher education, who think that they do not have a good pre-university education, who are not happy to continue their university education, who are not happy with their family, who are the only children in the family, who are Anatolian high school graduates, and male students revealed that their level of adjustment is low. In the study, stepwise multiple regression analysis was used to determine the factors associated with university students' adaptation to the university. Research findings; In the first year of the university, students who have low commitment to higher education, who think that they do not have a good education before university, who are not happy to continue their university education, who are not satisfied with their family, who are the only children in the family, who are Anatolian high school graduates, and male students revealed that their level of adjustment is low.
